2009 NRL Grand Final Betting

The Manly Sea Eagles opened preseason favourites to win the 2009 Grand Final but after four straight losses to open the season and the loss of star fullback Brett Stewart to injury the Eagles blew markedly in premiership NRL betting. Some winning midseason form, however, saw the defending premiers firm in futures NRL betting for the 2009 title back into single figures. The Melbourne Storm, perennially at the top of NRL Grand Final winner markets and the favourites going into the last three deciders, have been solid at the top of the market for most of the season while the Dragons, in Wayne Bennett's first year, have done nothing but tighten up as their winning run continues. The big mover in betting throughout the season has been the Bulldogs, however, with Canterbury firming in from 41.0 to, at one time, Grand Final favourite. On the verge of the NRL finals, the Bulldogs are second favourite for the title in NRL betting.

2009 AFL Grand Final Betting

Despite losing the 2008 Grand Final to Hawthorn, Geelong opened the 2009 AFL Grand Final winner market as a firm favourite. The Cats have been the dominant team in the AFL over the last two seasons and when they continued to dominate over the first three months of the 2009 season they continued to shorten. A loss to St. Kilda, however, along with two subsequent defeats saw them slip behind the Saints in Grand Final betting. The Saints have ridden a wave of undefeated hype to premiership favouritism. Collingwood are the only other team in single figures on the cusp of the finals series. Defending premiers Hawthorn are out to beyond 51.0 in AFL betting.

The Fun of Footy Betting

Footy betting is an institution in Australia and no matter how you choose to indulge; you do so with the great majority. Many Australians are prepared to test their footy knowledge against the market and have the odd footy bet.

And for every thousand punters there are a thousand ways to footy bet.

Some punters will back their favourite team to win the premiership. Others will back them every week. Some will bet have a big weekend multi looking for that large score. Others will have an interest in every game. There are some who love putting on a first try-scorer and goal-scorer for the televised games. Others put a couple of well considered line bets on. Some follow the weather closely and only bet on total points. Others like a nice payout and try to find some added value in the half-time/full-time double markets. There are those who place a premiership double at the beginning of the season and ride their selected teams all year. Others load up on a roughie to make the finals and never miss a game of that team. Some bet by themselves, others in punters clubs, others with their best mate. Some follow the money, others go against it. Some will bet in every game, others twice a year.

Footy betting is a way of life and adds so much to following the game. Don't miss out. Sign up with Flemington Sportsbet today for all your footy betting needs.
